Memorials for Ciara
i C.A.R.E. Donations
On the 3rd of June 2008, our sister Áine turned 50. What would have been an occasion for celebration under normal circumstances was overshadowed by the loss of Ciara. As she said ‘I have everything I need but I don’t have Ciara’, so she decided that the occasion of her birthday should be used to benefit others in memory of Ciara.
She asked her friends and family not to buy birthday gifts but to give her a donation instead for i.C.A.R..E., an organisation based in the Buncrana area of Donegal where Áine lives and where Ciara spent many holidays when she was younger. The aim of the organisation is “to improve the quality of life of individuals with autism and their families throughout their lives” and further information about their wonderful work can be found on www.icare.ie (see link below).
A sum of €600 was collected and handed over to i.C.A.R.E on the 8th June 2008. Áine’s only request is that a piece of equipment be bought for the children at the centre in Buncrana in memory of Ciara.
By remembering Ciara in a spirit of generosity and love, we are being true to the spirit of Ciara herself. It is the best birthday present Áine could get. Thank you to all those who contributed. By the way, she did get gifts also!
